Call journal and reporting for Asterisk

Your calls, in order. The reports, already done. The recording, one click away.

Asterisk records everything but hands you raw data and a table. Call Detailed Reports gives you a call list you can actually read, the reports already computed on top of it, and every call's recording right there in the same row — without touching the server.

What you have on Asterisk today

A CDR table in your PBX panel: raw columns, few filters, nothing computed. And the recordings sit somewhere on disk, in folders by date, named after the call identifier. To listen to a conversation from three days ago you either log into the server or ask someone to do it for you.

What you get

The full call list, filtered by period, direction, extension and number, with columns that make sense at a glance, and export. On top of it, the reports already computed. And next to every call, the play button: the recording is fetched from your own PBX in under a second, with nothing touched on the server.

Three things on one screen, plus the export

The list, the reports and the audio live together. That is the difference — not one more feature, but no longer working in three places.

📋

A list you can hand to a person

Every call with who rang, which of your numbers they reached, who picked up, how long they waited, how long they talked and why it ended. Filters by period, direction, extension and number — you find a specific call in seconds, not in Excel.

🎧

The recording, in the same row

Press play on the call in the list and you hear it. The recording is fetched from your own PBX on demand, usually in under a second. No server login, no hunting through folders by date, no asking anyone for anything.

📊

The reports, already computed

Answer rate, busy hours and weekdays, queue service level, abandons, per-extension rankings. You do not build them out of the list — you find them done, compared against the previous period.

📥

Two exports, for two questions

The calls one by one, exactly as shown on screen, same filters. Or the reports as figures, one file covering the whole period. The first is for a specific case, the second is for Monday's meeting.

What's inside

A journal that answers a customer's questions and a dashboard that answers a manager's.

🔍

The call journal

Every call — inbound, outbound and internal — filtered by period, direction, extension and number. Date and time, who rang, which number they reached, who answered, total duration, actual talk time, wait time and the hangup reason.

🎧

Playback straight from the row

A play button on every line. The recording is fetched from your own PBX on press and starts by itself. We keep no archive: we play what exists on your side, and if the file has already been deleted on the PBX we say so plainly.

📈

Dashboard with date range

Total calls, answered, missed, answer rate, average talk time and average wait — all compared with the previous period, plus the daily trend and the inbound / outbound / internal split.

🗓️

Busy-hours heat map

Hour × weekday, plus the busiest day with its total next to its average. Ten days contain two Mondays and a single Sunday — the average tells the truth, the raw total lies. The map is only drawn when the period holds enough calls.

🎯

Queues: service level and abandons

How many calls were answered within X seconds, per queue, with X chosen by you. Plus at how many seconds of waiting the impatient ones hang up and in which hours the queue stops coping — from the log the PBX writes by itself.

👤

Per extension: answered and missed

Two rankings, not one. Who answers the most calls and how long they talk, but also whose desk the most calls walk past — someone with 40 calls who misses 30 never appears in a chart ordered by volume.

How it reaches your screen

Three steps, once. After that it runs on its own.

⚙️ 01

Install the agent on the PBX

One command, two or three minutes. The agent opens the connection from your PBX outwards — you open no ports and expose nothing to the internet.

🔄 02

The agent reads what Asterisk wrote

Strictly read-only: the call records and the queue log. It changes no dialplan, adds no tables, never touches native recording and never enters your panel.

📊 03

Open the dashboard

The reports are already computed. Pick the period, read the answer, download what you need.

Which PBX systems it runs on

The reports come from Asterisk's own data, not from the panel above it. The panel only matters for how we reach that data.

🟢

Asterisk

The engine that writes the data. Everything we read — the call records and the queue log — belongs to Asterisk, not to the interface in front of it. That is why the reports do not depend on which panel you chose.

🧩

Panel distributions

FreePBX, VitalPBX, centraletelefonice.ro PBX, Issabel, PBXact, Elastix — all of them are Asterisk with an interface on top, writing the same tables. Today we start automatically on FreePBX and on centraletelefonice.ro PBX; for the others, tell us what you run and we check.

⚙️

Bespoke PBX systems

A hand-built Asterisk with its own data structures, or a system built for one customer. We fit them ourselves — tell us what you have and we will look at how we reach the call records.

☎️ Running a different PBX?

If you run Asterisk in any shape, the data already exists — all that is left is how we reach it. And if you run something else entirely, tell us: the platforms we support today got on the list exactly that way, because somebody asked.

Frequently asked questions

How is this better than what my PBX panel already gives me?
Three things, on one screen. The list is filtered by period, direction, extension and number, with columns that make sense — including wait time, which the raw table does not show separately. The reports are already computed, compared against the previous period, and contain things the call records do not even hold: queue service level and the second at which callers give up. The recording plays from the row, with no server login. On Asterisk those three normally live in three different places, and the third one is an SSH console.
What does "wait time" mean, and why doesn't it add up with duration?
Waiting runs from the moment the call arrives until someone answers or the caller hangs up. Talk time is the conversation itself. Asterisk records them separately and we keep them separate. Add them together and a call where someone sat four minutes on hold and spoke for thirty seconds would look like a long, successful conversation.
Why is the missed-call count lower than the one in my PBX?
Because we count calls and the PBX counts rings. A queue ringing five phones at once writes five rows for a single call; we count it once. Same calls, counted properly.
Can I give a colleague access to their own calls only?
Yes. In the client portal, under Agents, tick "Own calls only": they see calls they made, calls they answered, and internal calls with a colleague. The restriction rests on the extension recorded on their account — with no extension they see an empty list, so a forgotten setting can never quietly turn into access to everyone's calls.
Can I listen to a call recording?
Yes, straight from the list. The recording is fetched from your own PBX on demand, usually in under a second. We keep no archive: we play what exists on your side, and if your PBX has already deleted the file we say so plainly instead of leaving you with a spinner.
Does it run on any Asterisk, or only on FreePBX?
What we read belongs to Asterisk: the call records and the queue log. Any Asterisk system that keeps them in a reachable database can be read. Today the agent starts automatically on FreePBX and on centraletelefonice.ro, plus the bespoke systems we fit ourselves; for Issabel, PBXact, Elastix, Wazo or a hand-built Asterisk, tell us what you run and we check before you pay anything. It does not work on closed appliances such as Grandstream UCM or Yeastar, where the database cannot be reached. FusionPBX is a different engine — FreeSWITCH — so that is a separate conversation.
Does anything get installed on the PBX? Do I have to open ports?
The PBXTools agent gets installed, with one command. You open no ports: the agent opens the connection outwards on 443, exactly like a browser. It works behind NAT and behind a firewall, with no forwarding.
What data leaves my PBX?
Call records: time, numbers, extension, duration, hangup reason and the queue log. Conversation content never leaves on its own — a recording is uploaded only when someone presses play on that specific call, and it is deleted from our side shortly after.
How is this different from Smart Missed Calls?
Call Detailed Reports shows you all calls, with full duration and routing — it is the analysis tool. Smart Missed Calls deals exclusively with missed calls and tracks them until somebody calls back — it is the daily working tool. They are used together.
What does it cost?
€9 per month, per PBX. No setup fee and no long-term contract. How many colleagues read the reports does not change the bill.
